Great way to start out my engagement session season. Alesia and Matt are super cute and fun. I had a great time with them in downtown Albany, near The State Room where they will be getting married and having their reception. Thanks guys for choosing me! Hope you enjoy. I am using some new editing software and would love your feedback! I hear often how people love the fact that my pictures look natural and timeless. I want to keep offering that and kick it into high gear a little more!

Cait and Bill

Seven weeks ago I ruptured my achilles tendon, six weeks ago I had major surgery to repair it. My doctor said no way was I going to photograph this wedding on 4.28. I immediately called Cait and Bill and told them my situation. I also reassured them that I was going to do my best to be there, but I was going to have another photograph there too.

As the day approached I was more and more hopeful that I was progressing to where I would be able to do my job and be great. Leading up to the 28th I knew I was ready!

Saturday was a great day for me knowing I was going to be able to photograph, and I had a pleasure of being a part of Cait and Bill’s day, thank you guys.

Special thanks to Brooke, Cheryl and Jeanne! Your support and help was very much appreciated. Also The State Room and Piano Man for a great evening!

How I started

I often get asked how did you get into photography? My story is pretty simple. I did it the old fashioned way. I started the process of photography working at a photo lab. Back then digital was not a thing. It was film, from processing to printing to archiving. I spent 8 hours a day looking at film and then the pictures and seeing what worked and what did not. I saw the negative and how it corresponded to the printing. How the dark spots meant it was light and the light parts meant dark. When printing film you could not see colors on the negative, just the prints. Photographers who were good knew what they were doing. There was no screen to look at to tell you how you did, or photoshop to fix it later. You shot it how you wanted it to be. The next step was to buy a camera. I got a Canon AE-1. It was a fully manual camera, I just had my meter. Working at the photo lab absolutely helped me understand what happened when I did different settings. I then too also started assisting two local photographers. I lugged gear, held a light, got people, held things, fixed the dress, etc etc. The experience was invaluable. I learned the flow of a wedding, and also how much as a wedding photographer you deal with families and everything that comes with it. So after about three years of assisting I started working for a local company, after a couple years I started my own business. In 2004 I stopped working at McGreevy Prolab and now all I do is photography. My own business has weathered the times changing. I look forward to a successful next twelve years!

Hey everyone. You may have noticed, I have been slow to post. I have a very good reason for that. I have been recuperating from achilles tendon surgery. It has been two weeks, and everything is progressing well. I should be up and walking on my own in 4-6 weeks. I just need to take care of it and make sure that it is protected.

Lots of people have asked did you do this in roller derby. The answer is no, I did it at crossfit, just exercising. My PA told me this is what I get for exercising. She was pretty funny. I will be back, better then ever in no time and can’t wait to see everyone real soon!

I am still making appointments everyone! I will gladly set up a time for a consultation!

Downtown Albany is a great back drop for professional pictures. The history, grandness and beauty cannot be duplicated or created in photoshop. The central location makes going to various locations a breeze! What a fun and inspiring place to photograph.
